In the Boss’s Shoes
Some people get angry easily. You have to be careful and handle them with kid gloves. My boss is always angry. He’s always hot under the collar about something. If sales are bad, he gets very nervous. He’s afraid that he’s going to lose everything. He thinks he should sell the business. But the business never makes very much money. We always run on a shoestring. In business, you have to be calm and keep your temper. But I’m too busy to run out on a Tuesday. I’m always working. I always have to handle hot problems. I can’t stand this anymore.
At night, my boss comes into the office. He yells and screams. He’s really flying off the handle. He throws papers at the walls. He tells me he’s fed up. He’s always ready to blow up. When I’m around him, I feel like I’m about to lose my mind. Then he says, “Don’t just sit there. Get to work!” I do. I have to. He’s not patient. He’s a real pain in the neck.
When I try to talk to him, he doesn’t listen. He doesn’t want to hear anything. He just says I’m wrong. He never gives me a chance. Sometimes I wonder if he even knows what he’s doing.
Then one day he says, “Tomorrow we’ll have a meeting.” I look forward to it. I hope the meeting will help. I hope it will be a change for the better. But I don’t know. I think it might just be more hot air.
