الوصف

Vocabulary in Language Teaching explores why vocabulary knowledge sits at the center of language and communication—and what that means for classroom instruction. The module reviews the nature of vocabulary knowledge and the mental lexicon, focusing on how form, meaning, and mapping work together. It then explains how learners acquire vocabulary and refine lexical knowledge over time, considering different contexts of vocabulary learning and how tasks and input presentation influence L2 word learning. Particular attention is given to evidence from research on task effects (e.g., sentence writing and word copying) and input delivery (e.g., talker variability). Finally, it outlines principles for effective vocabulary instruction, emphasizing repeated, meaning-bearing input, task–outcome specificity, and a gradual buildup of language-specific vocabulary use, including a sample lesson.
